Grown-ups usually ask…
What is 1000 Books Before Kindergarten?
A simple goal: read 1,000 books with your child before they start kindergarten. Lots of public libraries run it as a free program, often with stickers or small prizes along the way.
Do re-reads count?
Yes! Reading the same favorite book for the twentieth time counts twenty times. Little ones love repetition, and they learn a lot from it.
How long does it take?
One book a day gets you there in under three years. Three a day (breakfast, after lunch, and bedtime) takes about eleven months.
Do books read by someone else count?
Yes. Books read by a teacher, librarian, grandparent, or big sibling all count, and so does library storytime.
Do I have to sign up anywhere?
Not for these sheets: print and go. If your library runs the program, sign up there too, since they often have treats for milestones. Chapterpillar isn't affiliated with the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Foundation or any library program.
